Visiting Beauly and the Highlands
The thriving village of Beauly is a popular destination.
Set around a square, with the ruins of the Priory at one end, its beautiful floral displays attract visitors from far and wide. It is home to a wide range of independent shops including award winning gift shops, art galleries and the legendary Campbell’s of Beauly which has a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty the Queen for the supply of tweeds.
There are plenty of places to enjoy a coffee or a meal.
Just outside the village is the Robertson Farm shop where you can see Highland cattle up close. During the summer they have a petting farm.
There are a number of fairly gentle walks around the village. Further afield is Glen Affric Nature Reserve, considered to be one of the most beautiful Glens in Scotland. There are a significant number of Munros (mountains in Scotland over 3,000 feet) within a half hour drive.
Beauly is the perfect base for touring around the Highlands. Close to the main routes North, South, East and West it is within easy driving distance of some of the area’s top visitor attractions including Loch Ness, Ben Nevis, Culloden battlefield, the Cairngorm mountains and dolphins at Chanonry Point. Then there are the many castles, countless whisky distilleries, standing stones and ancient settlements nearby.
A day trip out can take you as far as Skye, Orkney or the Glenfinnan railway viaduct, made famous by Harry Potter. And remember in the summer we have up to 18 hours of daylight.
Beauly lies on the North Coast 500, a circular driving route around the north of Scotland which is fast becoming as iconic as the famous American Route 66.
And if driving is not your thing you can hop on a train and and get to Inverness within 15 minutes or travel further afield – going west to Plockton or Kyle of Lochalsh or north to Golspie, Brora and ultimately Wick or Thurso. All have their own attractions. We also have a regular bus service to Inverness and Dingwall.
If you’re heading out for the day we can provide a gourmet picnic for your travels. And if you want to settle in for the night we can provide a meal for your room made with the finest local ingredients. Just pop it in the microwave.
